Carp Die Off Ending
The epidemic of Koi Herpes Virus, KHV, has taken its toll on the Carp population in Lake Havasu. According to a BLM source, the number of fish killed by the virus was in the hundreds of thousands, significantly reducing the carp count in the lake. The KHV affected only the Carp, which is of the Koi species of fish.
Evidence of the epidemic is still seen here and there but nowhere near what it was during the month of June. For the past couple of weeks the number of dead fish seen has diminished to a point of only infrequent sightings.
In my opinion we are back to “normal”. The water level in the lake is high, the weather is warm – it is time to be enjoying the summer in Lake Havasu!

Havasu Celebrates July 4th
The weekend of July 4th in Lake Havasu was “one to remember”. Back in March, the City Manager cut the budget and eliminated funds for our annual fireworks display. Not to worry when you live in a town that knows what the residents like and enjoy! The local Fire Fighters rose to the challenge and began a fund raising campaign to make sure we had a fireworks display to satisfy all those celebrating here on the 4th.
The funds drive went over the top. Donations flowed in from citizens and organizations raising enough money to have a fireworks display on Friday night and a BIG celebration in Rotary Park on Saturday with games, food, music, and an especially spectacular display over Thompson Bay the night of the 4th. The rockets soared and burst into colorful sprays for almost 30 minutes and ended with a “Grande Finale” that took your breath away!
